No longer testing Xobni January 24, 2008
Posted by jay in : Technology , trackbackAfter two weeks of testing I decided to remove Xobni. I did it for two reasons: it slowed down Outlook and the end user benefits were not clear to me. For email email & desktop search, I stick with X1 which has superior capabilities compared to Xobni and other desktop search applications.

and this has nothing to do with the fact that X1 is an ideallab company?

Not at all.
I tested Google Desktop, Lookout 1.2 (version before it was bought by Microsoft and turned to MS desktop search), X1 and now Xobni.
X1 has the best capabilities in term of applying different filters, it supports RAFT (refine as you type), preview of the messages/files content without the need to open them (similar to Outlook or Snap.com in its enhanced mode). You gave me the idea to write a blog post with more details about it.
If you don’t want to get it directly from X1, get it from Yahoo’s - they license it from X1…

I second Yovav on this. I have used Xobni, which looked cool at first (still does) yet it crashed my Outlook much too often.
Same as Yovav, I turned back to old and good X1 for a while, yet I must say that the inherent and improved search within Outlook 2007 (based on the MS Desktop search, but with much better GUI), made me use it for emails since.
