The first song I happened to hear on my way back from the Burbank airport this evening was R.E.M’s new single “Supernatural Superserious”, the first from their upcoming album “Accelerate” (release date is April 1). As soon as I heard the first guitar chords I knew that this is going to be a hell of a song.
It is a classic R.E.M song – compact rock done really well, something we have not heard from them in years. Peter Buck plays powerful guitars while the double-time drum beats pushes this song forward. Michael Stipes’ lead singing is strong and rough and with Mike Mills’s, who shines with his backing vocals on the chorus, the two create a wonderful sound.
This is a brilliant track that brings the best out of all the band’s members.

Wow, what a song, Supernatural Superserious is absolutely awesome. Peter, Mike and Michael, thanks guys, cant wait to hear the rest of Accelerate. Cheers boys!
It is weird. I am big fan of REM, but I cant understand why people want to hear songs like Supernatural Superserious. It s already been here. Is an average pop song with very cheap guitar riff. Everyone is like “welcome back REM”. This is 1st time they disappointed me. In my eyes they made step backward. Were they pushed to to this?
Refreshing to hear isn’t it? From the first few seconds to the last few, it’s a fresh sounding radio-rock song. I guess it could almost be called good pop music, somewhat similar to Imitation of Life from the Reveal album of 2001 – but with more crunch. I look forward to hearing the album!
Same-y sounding track that could be a re-work of anything off Reveal. Since Berry’s leaving, most of the R.E.M. material has the same sound and feel to it, whether it be the slow songs, the mid-tempo tracks or the rockers.
