Innovative Web Form Buttons From Disqus

I logged into the Disqus console today to change some settings and noticed a new feature. The settings pages do not have a visible “Save” and “Cancel” buttons.  Instead, only if you change a value/option on the page the buttons float and appear from the bottom of the visible area. This is a big usability improvement as it eliminates the need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and hit save. I think this is very innovative and very cool. I have not seen this feature on other website but I am sure it will happen soon.

    A very nice design indeed! Though in ideal world, I doubt we will have save buttons at all. 80% of the time it's clear that the user intended to modify the data. In fact, at first encounter with a PC, most people assume it saves everything (that's why they are reluctant to touch it). A system can minimize the use of a “save” dialog to 1% if: 1) it has a robust undo; 2) It has an elegant indication of when it actually saved data. Google Docs is one example. That said, we live in the real world, and it's a very nice design.

    Disqus is the top commenting platform in my opinion. Not only is Facebook Connect integration nice but allowing users to also use their Twitter accounts to leave comments is awesome.
