A Wonderful Weekend in Rome

Oh, Roma. The advantage of living only 3.5 hours away from you. My wife and I were there for a fantastic weekend and loved every second of it.

Efrat (a.k.a. Italiana) provided tips & recommendations that probably can't be found in a tour guide. If you are looking for a different, non-standard trip to Italy, use her services.

Of course, we let our noses simply lead us in search for excellent food. And there was plenty of it:

Pasta – try the ones at Gioia Mia Pisciapiano
Pizza – at Forno Marco Roscioli (stand and eat) & Dar Poeta (sit down)
Cappuccinos – love the high pitch sound of the cups shaking.
Gelato – in the winter it tastes even better
Pastries – some of best I've had in my life at La Deliziosa Pasticceria

I am heading to San Francisco for a one day conference (OMMA Performance).

Typically I would close my eyes and nap for an hour. This time the spectaclur views kept me awake.

Back from Israel

I arrived yesterday afternoon after a long and exhausting flight. Surprisingly the jet lag has not hit yet…

I had plans to draft my impressions while on the plane but when you fly with three kids you should not make these kind of plans. So, give me a few days and I will do my best to post something. And if I won’t find the time, simply enjoy this typical scene from our visit, taken at the renovated Tel Aviv port.

I can’t wait to grab a seat

Virgin America campaign’s tag line, ”Grab a Seat”, is brilliant and the online campaign they had just began looks phenomenal. I saw their ads earlier today, visited their super modern, elegant & sexy web site, and immediately knew that my next flight to San Francisco, New York or Vegas will be with them.

I mean, how can you resist to mood lighting, plugs in every seat (no more desperate searches for those few available electricity outlets in the airport) and a cabin that has the amenities & ambience of a W Hotel suite?

Bloomfield on 24

Jack trains his gun when Nadia and the agents enter. He demands a guarantee that Audrey will be safe. Suddenly, Audrey mumbles the word “Bloomfield.” Jack explains that she’s answering where she was held. Dr. Bradley tells Nadia that the word could mean nothing. (24, Episode Guide: 1:00 – 2:00 AM)

I never imagined Bloomfield will break into prime time TV in the US, a country where Baseball is religion and Football is a game played using the hands. The creators of 24 picked a fine place for the last 3 episods.

If you want to experience the real thing you’d have to visit Tel Aviv on a Saturday night, when Maccabi plays. Make sure you sit in gate 11 or 13.

Back from Web 2.0 Expo

Back from the Web 2.0 Expo after the launch of Snap Shots. This was a very intense and successful trip:

Left the officehttp://www.idealab.com/about_idealab after the launch button was pushed and the PR hit the wires (noon) -> Burbank airport (2pm flight) -> Oakland(arrived at 3:15) -> Bart to SF -> Rex Hotel (checkin at 4:15) -> then to the Expo at Mosconee Center -> Snap Shots Launch party at Two Restaurant-> W Hotel Bar (with Kobi and Nimrod) -> Rex Hotel (zzz…) -> breakfast and Moscone Center again (till 4pm) and then heading back home in the same route.

The feedback to Snap Shots from people who came by our booth and others was extremely positive. I also met many people I know from past life, Mike Jones and his crew were booth neighbors, Ouriel and Orli came to see the new product (and seem to like it), other friends and business-colleagues celebrated with us the launch of Snap Shots and we all had a great time. Shachar finally had his first drink at SF and as a bonus he also had his five minutes of fame.

Other highlights:

People twittered like mad
The friends from Netvibes invited people to their party like mad
As in real life the long tail hall seems to have most of the action
and one Cliché to end this post, San Francisco is such a beautiful city

Seven days in Israel

I went to Israel for a very short and intensive trip. Spent a few days in Tel Aviv and a few at the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), saw family & friends and participated in two major internet/technology events that took place that week.

The first event was Kinnernet, the un-conference created by Yossi Vardi. A crowd of about 250 creative & fascinating people were invited to spend two days collaborating, discussing, juggling, and playing.

The second event was TheMarker COM.Vention, Israel’s largest internet conference. I sat on panel called “Disruption 2.0: The Way Web 2.0 Challenges Web 1.0? and had the opportunity to present the way Snap disrupts the search market.

The conference was a great success. Over 3000 people attended the well organized event. I had the opportunity to meet many colleagues from past life (conratulations to my friends Itzik, Eran, Eyal, Amir and the rest of the InfoGin team for winning the ‘most promising startup award’) and get to know new Israeli internet professionals and entrepreneurs.
